The project, completed for Public Works and Government Services Canada and directed by the architectural prime consultant DFS Inc., involved a comprehensive condition survey of the building envelope. The survey was conducted via personnel basket suspended from a 110-ton crane in winter conditions. The structural aspect of the review was to determine immediate, short-term and long-term concerns with respect to masonry cladding and the supporting steel substructure. Given the public nature of the property, tenant occupancy, security measures and historic significance, the project presented numerous engineering and organizational challenges that were overcome with innovative solutions and effective communication with team members.
